Sumba Tenun Ikat. Threads of Possibility
Sumba’s Tenun Ikat is considered among Indonesia’s finest traditional textiles, and in East Sumba I went deeper into its making and the stories woven into every piece. Watching beautiful textiles emerge from simple tools, natural materials and a long, patient process taught me something beyond craftsmanship, limitation does not mean there is no possibility. I began to notice the same pattern in many remarkable stories I have encountered over the years: sometimes the deepest possibilities are discovered within the things that seem to restrict us. Growing up between village and city life, I learned how easily we try to escape what makes us afraid, but what if, instead of running away, we go deeper and see what is waiting there?
