Cementerio General: A city for the dead
Cementerio General is easily accessible, as it is located right next to the Santiago Metro station called Cementerios. This place is designed as a city for the dead, and many of the country’s historical figures are buried here, including Salvador Allende, Violeta Parra, Orlando Letelier, and others. I spent almost the entire day here, appreciating the diverse tomb designs, which include Gothic, Egyptian, Greek, and more. Sitting among the dead brings me a sense of peace, leading me to question why this peace seems to come only after death. Perhaps we should reconsider the concept of surrender. Surrender can be a strength rather than a weakness. In the flow of life, acceptance and surrender might be the only ways to find peace within ourselves and in the world around us.
