Can an Unfinished Building Be an architecture style? A Journey Through Gaudí’s Mind

Live Like A Local” is a study I conducted to better understand and plan for our upcoming Europe Tour. I spent one month in Spain focusing on four key aspects: exploring landmarks and hidden gems, immersing in art and culture, adopting local habits and traditions, and going deeper into the local way of life.

One of the highlights was discovering the works of Antoni Gaudí, a genius of architecture known for his Modernisme and Art Nouveau style. Visiting his masterpieces include Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, and Casa Vicens, sparked my curiosity about his creative mind. I learned that Gaudí rarely traveled outside Barcelona, drawing most of his inspiration from nature: trees, seashells, and organic forms. The inverted catenary arches of Sagrada Família, for instance, were inspired by the reflection of hanging chains. Today, Sagrada Família is still under construction, a process that continues more than a century after it began. It made me wonder that could “unfinished” become a new architectural style? What do you think?

This experience is just one part of my “Live Like A Local” project, a deeper look into the landmarks and spirit of Spain. Last, if time permitted, you should also visit Palau De La Musica Catalana.
